Railways to run 12,000 special train services for Chhath and Diwali

The Indian Railways will operate 12,000 special train services for the Chhath and Diwali festive season in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Tuesday. Addressing journalists, he said another 150 trains will be completely unreserved and these will be deployed to address last moment rush.

“Over 10,000 special train trips have already been notified,” the minister said.

These new trains will facilitate transport of around 2-3 crore passengers. Indian Railways operated 7,724 special trains last fiscal for enabling higher passenger movement which typically occurs between October 15 and November 15.
