Railway police increase surveillance in MRTS stations

CHENNAI : In the wake of the death of a 22-year-old, Preethi, who was pushed off a moving MRTS train by phone snatchers, the Government Railway Police has formed a team to ensure safety of passengers, especially women.

The MRTS operates 140 services through 17 stations between Chennai Beach and Velachery every day. Though there is a good rush during peakhours, the station remains empty during non-peak hours.

Based on the instructions of Vanitha, ADGP, railway police, and V Ponramu, SP, railway police, a 15-member team has been formed to ensure safety of the passengers. They will be on duty during peak hours and in the evening.
