Railway committee’s visit raises hope for better services
Chennai: A visit by the ministry of railway’s passenger amenities committee on Tuesday raised the hope of suburban commuters on the western line, especially those who travel from stations beyond Arakkonam, that it may help speed up the introduction of more trains and better amenities at railway stations.
Passengers associations have been petitioning the southern railway about the issues but in vain. They met the committee led by former MP P K Krishnadas and submitted their demands when the panel visited Sholinghur, Anvarthikanpet and Arakkonam.
The demand included extension of at least five pairs of morning and evening peak hour EMU suburban services terminating at Arakkonam to Sholinghur, use spare MEMU rake lying idle at Arakkonam to operate at least five more pairs of services on Arakkonam-Katpadi section, stoppage for two MEMU express trains at Chitteri and raising of platform level at Ichiputhur to suit use of suburban trains.
