The power consumers in Punjab are set to feel the pinch with Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) Monday announcing an increase in the tariff by 25 to 89 paise per unit for different categories. The new tariff order for 2023-24, which will be applicable with effect from May 16, came two days after the ruling Aam Aadmi Party won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll.
While Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the revised tariff would not impact domestic category consumers and farmers, the opposition parties slammed the move, saying it was the AAP government’s “gift” to Punjab people after wining the Jalandhar bypoll.
