Peak power demand at an all-time high in Telangana, as Celsius soars
HYDERABAD: With temperatures soaring and agriculture power demand rising in the past few days, Telangana on Monday recorded 10,501 MW, the highest peak power demand ever. Worried over abnormal increase in the power demand, which continued to hover over 10,000 MW on Tuesday, officials of Telangana Genco, Transmission and Distribution companies held an emergency meeting and discussed ways to meet the demand and ensure uninterrupted power supply to both the agriculture and domestic sectors.
Officials said that the average power demand during the last few days has been between 8,000 MW and 9,000 MW, but in view of the rise in temperatures, it has seen a steady increase in demand. Over a longer period, the demand has also been rising consistently ever since the state government started supplying 24×7 free power to the agriculture sector from January 2018. In the last one year, power demand had touched 10,817 MW.
