Passenger held with exotic wildlife at Mumbai airport

Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai customs intercepted a passenger attempting to smuggle exotic wildlife species into India during night duty, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday. The accused, identified as Harish Saravanan, a native of Tamil Nadu , was discreetly followed and stopped after crossing the green channel based on specific intelligence inputs.

A thorough search of his baggage — a brown “King Safari” trolley — revealed one pink bamboo basket, two blue plastic cages, and two pink-yellow cages concealed among chocolates and food items. On opening these containers, officers discovered several live and dead exotic species.
