Under ‘Operation Kaveri’, 231 more Indians landed at the Ahmedabad International Airport from strife-torn Sudan Tuesday. Of the 231 Indians, 208 or nearly 90 per cent were Gujarat residents, stated an official release.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, who also handles the Non-Resident Gujarati division of the state government, welcomed the evacuees. The current batch of Indians also included 13 Punjabis and 10 Rajasthanis.
So far, about 360 Gujaratis have returned from Sudan. In order to ensure quick completion of immigration formalities, nearly 15 counters have been set up at the Ahmedabad airport. Food and refreshments have also been arranged for the arriving passengers.
