Only 13% of ‘Made in India’ EVs qualify for govt’s PLI scheme as China factor looms in auto sector

India’s emerging electric car market remains under the shadow of Chinese imports as the manufacturers continue to rely on the world’s largest exporter for key components such as semiconductors, batteries and magnets. A report in the Times of India reveals that only six of every 46 (around 13%) electric vehicle (EV) models sold in India have been found eligible for benefits under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of the government, as they meet the domestic value-addition mandates.
