No relief for GITAM; power restoration on payment of arrears: HC
Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Monday rejected GITAM University’s request to issue orders for restoration of its electricity connection and clarified that restoration could be considered if 50% of the outstanding arrears of 118 crore is paid as per the procedure. GITAM University filed a petition against the disconnection of electricity due to unpaid dues, and the high court had previously instructed the concerned superintending engineer, TGSPDCL, to appear and provide an explanation. Following the disconnection on Dec 20, GITAM University filed an urgent interim petition for restoration.
When the matter came up for hearing before a bench of Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka, the institute’s counsel argued that the disconnection was affecting 8,000 students.
