No more shock from inflated power bills as new checks initiated

Chennai: You may no longer have to fear inflated electricity bills as the power discom has introduced a ‘reading quality check’ (RQC) mechanism that automatically flags abnormal power consumption readings before bills are generated. This is aimed at curbing faulty meter assessments by field staff.

A circular issued to all superintendent engineers, following a TOI article that highlighted various discrepancies in the billing system, stated that various red-flag reports had developed in the low-tension billing software. This is to curtail discrepancies in the assessment of power consumption, including the RQC report.
