NHAI wants tighter land norms for nod to highway projects

NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) won’t issue work order for highway projects under the public private partnership (PPP) mode unless it has 90% of the land is in its possession and without obtaining all statutory clearances. While this is expected to take care of the major reasons for delay in completion of projects, the NHAI has also proposed that no private contractor will be allowed to make claims which is more than the total project cost.

These are some of the major changes that NHAI has proposed in the contract document or model concession agreement, which governs the BOT (toll) projects, to revive private investment in the highway sector as government looks to build and expand nearly 60,000km of national highways by 2024 with an investment of nearly Rs 13 lakh crore.
