NHAI has not taken Panvel pothole order seriously: Bombay HC
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday said the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had not taken seriously its direction to repair potholed roads between Panvel and Indapur on the Mumbai -Goa national highway.
Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Abhay Ahuja made the observation while hearing a PIL by advocate Owais Pechkar on the bad state of roads on NH66 and the delay in widening them. Of the total stretch of 471km in Maharashtra, 84km from Panvel to Indapur is maintained by the NHAI while 387km from Indapur to Patradevi comes under the state public works department jurisdiction.
On October 10, the HC had warned that “if any casualty arising out of poor road conditions is brought to our notice, it will be dealt with strong hands”. The NHAI, in its affidavit, said, “The total stretch is in motorable condition and the repairing of potholes will be completed on a war footing”.
