Navi Mumbai Airport: The new kid set to rewrite Mumbai’s air travel story

For decades, Mumbai stood out among the world’s largest cities as one of the very few major urban centres served by only a single airport. That is set to change with the commissioning of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which will lift off with a ceremonial inauguration on October 8, and begin operations by December. Once operational, Mumbai will shed its rare distinction, shared only with Dhaka, of being a mega-city in the world’s top 10 by population with just one airport and a single runway, said a report by The Times of India.
