Runway repair and maintenance work was carried out at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Tuesday. The runway work started at 11 am and both runways – RWY 14/32 & 09/27 – became operational again at 5 pm. CSMIA sees over 950 air traffic movements per day.
To enable the smooth functioning of the airport during the monsoon season, CSMIA temporarily closed the runways and carried out multiple runway inspections. Various pre-monsoon measures – such as identifying waterlogging-prone areas, and locating superficial cracks through machine and manual observation – were also implemented.
