MSRTC plans to set up solar energy projects to generate 1,000cr power/year

Mumbai: Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on Monday announced it will become financially self-reliant by establishing solar energy projects on open spaces as well as on rooftops of workshops and bus stations, targeting electricity generation of approximately 300 MW annually.

“We have prepared a roadmap to generate electricity worth Rs 1,000 crore per year,” said MSRTC chairman Pratap Sarnaik. Currently, MSRTC requires 15 MW of electricity annually for daily establishment use. For this, a total bill of Rs 25 crore to Rs 30 crore has to be paid to the power distribution company. In the future, approximately 300 MW of electricity will be required for charging thousands of electric buses, an official said.
