Metro Rail hits highest annual ridership at 11cr

Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail achieved its highest-ever annual ridership, with more than 11.19crore passengers travelling in 2025.
According to CMRL’s data, the cumulative ridership since operations began on June 29, 2015, reached 46.73crore passengers as of Dec 31, 2025. While numbers dipped during the Covid-19 lockdown years, with only 1.18crore passengers travelling in 2020 and 2.53crore in 2021, ridership rose to 6.09crore in 2022, 9.11crore in 2023, 10.52 crore in 2024, and peaked at 11.19crore in 2025.
