Karnataka: Govt to increase power generation by another 5,000 MW: DCM

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday announced that the state government has plans to increase power generation by another 5,000 MW.

Speaking to reporters in Chamarajanagar, he stated that earlier when he was energy minister power generation was 10,000 MW in the state. At the end of my tenure, it was increased to 23,000 MW. “Pavagada solar park is the model for the world as it was set up without causing problems to farmers,” he said.

He said that the district minister and medical education minister are advised to deliver justice to the victims of Chamarajanagar oxygen tragedy that occurred in May 2021.

When asked about BJP leader MP Renukacharya’s meeting him and CM Siddaramaiah, the DCM stated that they would not stop anyone willing to join the party. “We will welcome all those having confidence and faith in us. There is no need for Operation Hasta,” he reiterated.

Shivakumar took a dig at BJP state leaders saying that the BJP’s central leadership has been treating the state party leaders ‘badly’ following the party’s loss in the assembly election. “BJP has failed to select an opposition leader till now. Former minister R Ashok has not been counted as a leader and this is the treatment the leaders are receiving from their leadership at the center,” he said.
