India resumes regular international flights, Mumbai airport handles 109 flights on Day 1
MUMBAI: Two years ago, when the government put a ban on scheduled international flights, the terminal 2 of Mumbai airport registered a change overnight. The place went from being an airport teeming with passengers to becoming one with an abandoned, deserted look. On Sunday, when the ban was finally lifted, the airlines and its allied industry must have heaved a collective sigh of relief even though there was no perceptible change at the terminal to mark the end of the period of curtailment.
On March 8, the government had announced its decision to lift the ban. Airlines will take time to scale up their operations.
“The airport handled about 109 international arrivals and departures on Sunday, the day one of recommencement of scheduled flights,” said a Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) spokesperson.
