India may push 5-MT green hydrogen target to FY32 amid global policy delays

New Delhi: India may defer its target of achieving a capacity of 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by two years, moving it to FY32, due to global policy uncertainties and anticipated delays in implementing green mandates within the global shipping industry, renewable energy secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi said on Tuesday.

The government expects around 3 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen capacity to come up by FY30.

Sarangi cited policy uncertainties in Europe, a major potential export destination, the International Maritime Organisation (IMO’s) deferral of its green fuel mandate by a year, and delay in implementation of ‘Renewable Energy Directive-3’ of the European Union, as key reasons for the expected delay.
