CHENNAI: In a relief to farmers in the western belt, protesting against land acquisition for installation of high tension power towers on farm lands, the Madras high court on Monday ordered maintenance of status quo till further direction.
Justice T Raja passed the interim order on a plea moved by eight farmers from Namakkal district assailing the acquisition move.
According to the petitioners, their main source of income is agriculture. While so, the district collector and the Power Grid Corporation of India passed orders dated February 2, 4 and 5 for acquisition of portions of agricultural lands owned by them for cultivation to erect high tension power towers.
