In 2 years, e-cars will cost same as petrol vehicles, says Gadkari
MUMBAI: Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said electric vehicles in the country will ‘cost the same’ as petrol vehicles in two years while cost of running your car on ethanol will be just Rs 65 per litre as compared to petrol price of Rs 109.98 in Mumbai.
Gadkari was speaking at the annual session and AGM of Indian Chamber of Commerce, held online on Monday evening. He said that electric vehicle cost will be gradually reduced and will be at par with the same car model in petrol variant in the next two years.
“We are setting up 600 EV charging points across major highways by 2023. The government also wants to ensure that the charging stations are powered by renewable sources like solar or wind electricity,” he said, adding that the cost per km for petrol-based vehicles now was Rs 10 as compared to Rs 7 for diesel and just a rupee for electric.
