The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to file a report to ascertain whether the lack of foot overbridges for pedestrians was leading to an increase in the number pedestrian deaths.
A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. S. Sundar sought data on the number of deaths on highways and the reasons behind them.
The court observed that safety of everyone must be taken into account after it was pointed out that there were no such foot over bridges for pedestrians between Chennai and Madurai.
