Feasibility report ready for 600 MW thermal power plant at Thoothukudi

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited has prepared feasibility reports for setting up a new 600 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Thoothukudi at an estimated cost of Rs 6,000 crore. After examining four possible sites, land near the existing thermal plant was considered the most viable.

A senior TNPGCL official told TNIE that former Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji, during the 2025-26 state budget session, announced steps to establish a new thermal plant in Thoothukudi.
