Experts propose solar panels for low-incomeneighbourhoods

Chennai: Experts in the city on Friday proposed community solar panels to ensure electricity in lower-income neighbourhoods, which are prone to power cuts. These community solar panels could benefit grouped resettlement colonies and urban habitat board settlements.

The proposal was suggested during a panel discussion titled ‘Smart, Green and Inclusive Chennai,’ organized by Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI). Mayilvel Nathan, founder and chief scientist of Go Green Think Tank, a sustainable energy solutions firm, said community solar panels and balcony solar panels can facilitate access to clean energy even for neighbourhoods that don’t have a rooftop.
