Excess renewable capacity underutilised: Power Minister Manohar Lal

New Delhi: Power minister Manohar Lal noted that India is currently a power-surplus nation, but excess renewable energy capacity remains underutilised due to limited capacity tie-ups which brings the need of having energy storage systems.

While addressing a meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Members of Parliament that focussed on pumped storage projects (PSPs), Lal emphasized that such storage systems play a key role by storing this surplus green power and meeting electricity demand during non-solar hours.
