EV battery explosion: How to keep batteries of EVs safe
MUMBAI: Exploding electric vehicle batteries are a global problem and many countries, particularly the US, have issued stringent manufacturing and use guidelines. Experts say that all considered, EVs are still safer than vehicles that run on fossil fuels, though walking the extra mile on precautions should always be given thought.
Recently in Vasai, a battery of an e-scooter being charged inside the home of Shahnawaz Ansari exploded, leading to the death of his 7-year-old son from burn injuries.
Ansari, his wife Shabana and their four-year-old daughter slept in the bedroom. Around 5.30am, they were woken up by the sound of an explosion followed by fire. While Ansari’s mother Ruksana escaped with minor injuries on her fingers, Shabbir, a Class 2 student, suffered around 70% burns.
