Durgapur incident: SpiceJet pilot’s licence suspended for 6 mths
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended for six months the licence of a SpiceJet pilot, who operated the flight from Mumbai to Durgapur in May that faced severe turbulence causing serious injuries to many passengers.
As many as 14 passengers and three cabin crew members were injured in the May 1 incident. A senior DGCA official said Saturday the licence of the pilot-in-command of the flight has been suspended for six months due to various violations. A SpiceJet spokesperson refused comment on the development.
The incident was investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. The DGCA official said that the pilot could have dealt with the bad weather in a better manner, particularly given that crews of several other flights in the area had decided to divert their planes to avoid it.
