Domestic flights: Airlines allowed to return to their own check-in baggage policies

NEW DELHI: Airlines are now free to implement their own check-in baggage policies. When domestic flights were allowed on May 25 after a two-month lockdown suspension, the aviation ministry had asked airlines to allow one check-in bag of up to 20 kg per passenger.
Before domestic flights were suspended on March 25, Air India used to allow check-in bag of up to 25 kg and private airlines — with some limiting number of bags also — up to 15 kg for economy passengers. Now, airlines can return to their pre-pandemic baggage allowances.
Air India says it will now allow domestic passengers in economy and business class to check-in upto 25 kg and 35 kg, respectively “in view of the recent relaxation by the aviation ministry.”
Air India Express says it “permits 25 kg as checked-in (on domestic flights) and 7 kg as hand bags which continues.”
