Delhi’s electric car subsidy ends; next focus on 2-wheelers and public transport
The Delhi government has stopped subsidies on electric cars and has no plans to extend it any further, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot was quoted as saying in a report on Wednesday.
Gahlot told the Hindustan Times that the electric car segment had got the “required push” in Delhi and the focus was now on tapping the two-wheeler, freight and public transport segments of electric vehicles (EVs).
Electric rickshaws and two-wheelers form the bulk of the battery-operated vehicles registered in Delhi, as recent figures show.
“Actually, a subsidy is not required for e-cars as such because those who can afford to pay around ₹15 lakh for a vehicle do not care if the cost is ₹1-2 lakh more, sans the subsidy.
