New Delhi: Civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu said on Friday that the Centre holds exclusive powers to limit airfares in extraordinary circumstances, but emphasised that fare caps are not a long-term or comprehensive solution to rising ticket prices.
The government has capped fares based on flight length, after mass cancellation of flights by market leader IndiGo led to a sharp increase in ticket prices on available flights. For instance, the one-way fare between Delhi and Mumbai cannot be more than ₹18,000.
