A special CBI Court on Monday allowed Rajiv Saxena, a co-accused in the VVIP helicopter scandal, to turn an approver.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had supported Saxena’s application seeking pardon and to become a witness in the case. With the court allowing it, he has become the first approver in the high-profile scam whereby bribes were allegedly paid to swing the deal to buy 12 helicopters for Indian Air Force in favour of British manufacturer AgustaWestland during the previous UPA regime.
ET had reported on March 13 that Saxena in his judicial confession, recorded earlier this month, explained the “modus operandi” adopted in routing the kickbacks. Saxena was described as the “key money launderer” by ED.
