CERC chief Pradeep Kumar Pujari may get extension
New Delhi: The government is likely to extend the tenure of former Gujarat cadre bureaucrat Pradeep Kumar Pujari as chairperson of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). If approved, Pujari will be the first chief of the power regulator to get a tenure extension, even as the Electricity Act, 2003 forbids it.
A senior government official said that as a special case, the Centre is likely to allow Pujari to continue as the CERC chief till he turns 65. He is currently 63 years old. Pujari, a former power secretary, was appointed to head the CERC for three years till January 31.
