Cabinet approves four rail multitracking projects worth Rs 24,634 crore
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved four railway multitracking projects across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh worth Rs 24,634 crore. These projects will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 894 route kilometres (rkm), allowing the national transporter to ferry 78 million tonnes additional freight annually. These are essential routes for transport of coal, container, cement, fly ash, food grain, steel, among others.
Announcing these decisions, Union Railways, Information Broadcasting, and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “These projects will be completed in the next three to five years.”
