Bengaluru Metro a rail entity, state has no jurisdiction: Karnataka high court
Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has quashed a state govt notification that had earlier declared the services of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) as part of public utility.
In his order, Justice Ananth Ramanath Hegde held that the Central govt was the appropriate authority for BMRCL and that the state govt had no jurisdiction to notify its services. He observed that BMRCL is a railway company, as defined under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and the state govt has no competence to notify its services as a public utility.
