At 160 kmph, Namo Bharat becomes India’s fastest train, connecting Delhi to Meerut in under 60 minutes

India has a new speed champion on the rails. The Namo Bharat train, operating at a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the 55-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has officially become the fastest train in the country.

Until now, semi-high-speed trains like the Gatimaan Express and Vande Bharat held the top spot, both running at 160 km/h on specific routes. However, following a June 2024 directive, their speed was capped at 130 km/h. Namo Bharat, on the other hand, now touches 160 km/h on select stretches, giving commuters a taste of true rapid transit.
