Airport to join Esplanade, Howrah and Sealdah on metro map, Bypass corridor now till Beleghata
Kolkata: The city is set to get its second lifeline extending 16.6 km from Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan when the full East-West Metro is commissioned on Friday evening. Till now, the North-South metro was the sole lifeline for the city, allowing passengers to travel from New Garia to Dum Dum and even beyond to Dakshineswar in comfort even when roads got paralysed due to rallies or flooding.
“Every time I had to get off at Sealdah and take a cab to my BBD Bag office, I would hopelessly think of the jinxed Esplanade-Sealdah section and wonder if it would ever see the light of the day,” said Barnali Chatterjee, a legal professional and resident of Salt Lake.
