Air India to spend $400 million on cabin upgrade of existing 40 wide body aircraft
BENGALURU: In a welcome news for Air India’s medium to ultra long haul international travellers, the Maharaja will spend $400 million on the desperately needed cabin refurbishment of its wide body aircraft. AI’s existing twin aisle Boeing 777 and B787s will get a premium economy apart from the long-awaited completely new seats and inflight entertainment system in all cabin classes. The first refurbished plane will be ready by mid-2024, due to current global supply chain constraints.
A poor inflight experience and lack of punctuality were passengers’ biggest pain point with state-owned AI, something will soon change now under the Tatas. The founder group will refurbish all the existing 27 Boeing B787 and 13 B777 aircraft.
“This refurbishment will see a complete overhaul of existing cabin interiors, including the addition of latest generation seats and best in-class inflight entertainment across all classes.
