‘Air India and GoAir cap airfares on flights between Delhi & Srinagar till August 15’

NEW DELHI: Air India has capped airfares on Srinagar-Delhi route till Independence Day. While Srinagar-Delhi one-way fare will be capped at Rs 6,715; Delhi-Srinagar will have an upper limit of Rs 6,899. Low cost GoAir, full service Vistara (for economy class) and some other private airlines have also capped fares on flights out of Srinagar at Rs 10,000 till August 15.
The capping comes on the advice of aviation ministry after airfares on flights out of Srinagar saw a sudden surge for this weekend after the J&K government on Friday afternoon asked Amarnath yatris and tourists leave the valley at the earliest. Airfares were high for flights on Saturday and Sunday (August 3 and 4) and were returning to lower levels from Monday.
The initiative of fare capping on this sector under the current circumstances in the valley was first taken by Air India on Saturday evening when its Srinagar-Delhi flights for Sunday (August 4) were sold out.
