After floods, government moots building flyovers on Mumbai-Bengaluru national highway
PUNE As a stretch of the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway was inundated for three days, bringing vehicular movement to halt, the state government plans to ask the National Highway Authority of India to build flyovers on the highway route.
Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, on Tuesday, said he will speak to Union minister Nitin Gadkari about the possibility of building flyovers on the Mumbai-Bengaluru national highway stretch passing through Kolhapur, for uninterrupted vehicular movement during flooding.
Pawar was in Kolhapur to assess the flood situation in the district, which witnessed heavy rains last week. He also called for strict action against encroachments on natural water bodies flowing into the Panchganga river.
