KOLKATA: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) top brass has urged the Bengal government to expeditiously hand over 94.2 acres from a tea garden adjoining Bagdogra airport so that it can start constructing the new terminal at the earliest. The proposed project also includes 5.9 acres of defence land at the Indian Air Force-managed airport in the Darjeeling foothills.
“After the AAI board cleared the payment of Rs 25 crore for purchase of land at Bagdogra to carry out the long-overdue expansion, we have sent the proposal to Bengal chief secretary Malay De with a project layout drawing. We hope the land will be handed to us quickly so that we can finalise the project and begin construction,” AAI executive director (east) S P Yadav told TOI.
