HYDERABAD: State-owned NTPC has invited tenders for sourcing equipment for its proposed Rs 20,000 crore thermal power project in Andhra Pradesh. <\/p>\n
NTPC is establishing 4×1,000 MW imported coal-based thermal power plant in Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh, which will come up at an investment of Rs 20,000 crore. Approximately Rs 5 crore outlay is needed for generation of one megawatt thermal power. <\/p>\n
“The Environmental Impact Assessment studies are in progress and expected to complete by May. The project work is likely to commence from September,” a senior NTPC official official told PTI. <\/p>\n
In a statement, the country’s largest thermal power producer said, “Tenders are already invited for the main plant equipment and NTPC is taking up this project on fast track mode.” <\/p>\n
NTPC is executing 1,000 MW coal based units with supercritical technology, thereby the efficiency will be at the maximum and emissions are reduced drastically. <\/p>\n
The power plant requires 13.7 million tonnes coal per annum to achieve 90 per cent plant load factor, NTPC said. <\/p>\n
The Expert Appraisal Committee under the Ministry of Environment and Forests has already issued terms of reference for conducting EIA study in respect of this project, it added. <\/p>\n
