Infrastructure firm IVRCL, which has been facing flak for yesterday’s collapse of the flyover it was constructing in Kolkata and snuffed out 24 lives, expressed regret and said it was “merely an accident”.<\/p>\n
“We are also shocked that the flyover collapsed, we are also anxious to know why it happened,” said the company’s legal head Sita.<\/p>\n
“We have no information about the FIRs because they have not been served to us so far,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Same material was used for building all the 59 pillars and the 60th one collapsed. We don’t know why the bridge collapsed,” she added.<\/p>\n
The company said that its legal team is supporting the investigation and that no officials have been questioned so far.<\/p>\n
K P Rao of IVRCL yesterday said, \u201cForty-five per cent of the work was left. One girder missed and the second one fell. It is nothing but God’s act. This has never happened before; we are also in shock.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 2.2-km Vivekananda Road flyover, being funded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, was being constructed by IVRCL Infrastructure but had got stuck midway after several hurdles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
