Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday launched DigiYatra, a system that lets air travellers to enter the airport in the nation’s capital using a facial recognition technology. With DigiYatra, airport check-in will be paperless and passenger data can be processed automatically using a facial recognition system at multiple checkpoints, including security checkpoint locations.<\/p>\n
DigiYatra is being launched at Bangalore and Varanasi airports in addition to Delhi.<\/p>\n
A passenger must register their information on the DigiYatra app utilising Aadhaar-based validation and a self image capture in order to use the service. The boarding pass is then scanned, and the credentials are shared with the airport.<\/p>\n
The traveller must first scan their bar-coded boarding pass at the airport e-gate before the facial recognition system located at the e-gate verifies their identification and travel documents. The passenger can use the e-gate to enter the airport once this process is complete.<\/p>\n
The traveller must adhere to the standard process to get through security and board the aircraft.<\/p>\n
DIAL released the beta version of the DigiYatra app on August 15.<\/p>\n
The national capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) is run by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). It is also the country’s largest airport.<\/p>\n
DigiYatra, which uses facial recognition technology, will streamline and speed up the boarding procedure.<\/p>\n
DigiYatra will also ensure increased security at the airport because only authorised passengers can enter the terminal and passenger data is verified with the airline’s departure control system.<\/p>\n
The central organisation for DigiYatra is the non-profit Digi Yatra Foundation.<\/p>\n
