The transport department of the UT administration has planned to purchase 70 new electric buses, sending a proposal of Rs 230 crore before the finance department.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Rs 230 crore for the proposed 70 electric buses includes their operation, maintenance and running in the Tricity for 10 years. The budgetary demand has been prepared by keeping all parameters, technical aspects, feasibility and future requirements in mind,\u201d sources in the administration said.<\/p>\n
The city had got 80 electric buses in two phases, 40 in each. The 70 electric buses are also likely to come in a phased manner after received the budget for it.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, in almost all routes of electric buses, occupancy is more than 100% and 200% on some of them during peak hours. Maximum people prefer to opt for these electric buses. So, the authority is planning to get more of them,\u201d an official told TOI.<\/p>\n
Currently, the administration is using all 80 electric buses in the city and a few of them in the Tricity to cater to local passengers only. These buses are being run on the required routes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
