BENGALURU: Following a lengthy closed-door meeting with Nitin Gadkari, Union minister for road transport and national highways, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will conduct a detailed audit of the drainage system along Bengaluru-Mysuru NH 275.
\nThe move comes in the wake of flooding in parts of Ramanagara along the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway two weeks ago, which triggered accusations of \u201cunscientific\u201d work by NHAI, which is converting the highway into a 10- lane carriageway. \u201cNHAI, which conducts road audits, will conduct a drainage audit along the entire length of the highway to understand where gradients need to be incorporated, drains expanded, and blockages removed,\u201d Bommai said. \u201cWe need to basically expand runoff for water.\u201d
\nBommai said once the audit is completed, NHAI will release funds for works. Friday\u2019s meeting was also attended by officials from NHAI, the public works department, BBMP, and the state finance department.
