Andhra Pradesh energy department is exploring new investment avenues for renewable energy projects that it has planned on a massive scale. The state has identified 29 feasible locations to set up pumped hydro storage projects with a cumulative capacity of 33 GW on about 1.45 lakh acres of land in Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantapur districts.<\/p>\n
According to the government\u2019s initial estimates, about 5 lakh acres of land can be leased out for these projects, equipment manufacturing facilities, etc. in the state. The government reached out to the delegation of the government of Western Australia in Visakhapatnam on Saturday and explained the state\u2019s thrust on renewable energy.<\/p>\n
APTransco joint managing director Prudhvi Tej said Andhra Pradesh has prepared its \u2018renewable energy export policy 2020\u2019 to promote investments in the renewable energy sector. \u201cThis is aimed at not only strengthening the energy sector, but also to generate revenue, create local employment, and improve standards of living of the people of the state. This will also boost industrial and economic development in Andhra Pradesh,\u201d he said, adding that under the policy, renewable energy can be produced and exported to other states without any obligation to the state discoms.<\/p>\n
\u201cPumped hydro storage projects with a capacity of 33 GW have been planned both on river and off-river sites. This will help convert variable renewable energy sources into round-the-clock power and attract large-scale investments into the state,\u201d said Prudhvi.<\/p>\n
According to officials, the government through a land aggregating agency will procure and aggregate government and private lands at potential locations for allotment to the project developers on lease basis. As part of developing pumped hydro storage projects, a 1,350 MW pumped hydro project is being developed to enable larger integration of renewables into the grid and also to meet the state\u2019s increasing power requirement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
