The power situation in the state \u201cwas the worst\u201d during the erstwhile government of Samajwadi Party, cabinet minister Suresh Khanna said in Ghaziabad on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The minister joked that people then would deliberately name their daughters \u201cBijli\u201d so they could tell others that electricity was at home in the evening. \u201cDuring SP rule, people had named their daughters Bijli. When they would come home after playing, they would laugh that power had finally returned,\u201d he told a news conference.<\/p>\n
Ministers, MPs and other senior politicians held news conferences across the state to mark four and a half years of the Yogi Adityanath government. They listed out achievements of the government and attacked the opposition. The timing of the events, however, gave rise to speculation that BJP had already sounded its poll bugle \u2014 assembly elections in the state are due next year.<\/p>\n
Asked about the power tariff that many residents consider high, Khanna saw nothing wrong in it. He said people were paying for good service.<\/p>\n
In Noida, too, MP Mahesh Sharma attacked the previous government on electricity. \u201cWe are a power-surplus state, but electric supply could have been improved years ago. The previous government was just not ready to do it. Now, Noida has nearly 24 hours of power supply,\u201d he said. The MLAs from Noida, Jewar and Dadri also attended the news conference and highlighted the achievements of the state government.<\/p>\n
Noida residents have often questioned the city\u2019s power infrastructure. Even after mild showers, outages are reported from several sectors.<\/p>\n
Among the achievements that were highlighted were the Noida International Airport and the Film City in Jewar, the data centre, logistics hub and the DMIC corridor passing through Dadri. The MP also released a presentation, describing what the district had done in areas such as healthcare and Covid control, PM Awas Yojana, agriculture, women and child development, and so on.<\/p>\n
Asked if this was the start of the poll campaign, Sharma said it was just a celebration of the government\u2019s achievements.<\/p>\n
In Ghaziabad, Khanna alleged that the farmers protesting against the three laws were being \u201cmisguided\u201d by the opposition. \u201cThe actual farmers are with the government and happy with the steps taken,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
