The Assam power department has collected nearly Rs 12 crore as fine from different stakeholders\/ factories\/ individuals in the past one month for non-payment of electricity consumption bill.<\/p>\n
The state has been incurring a loss of around Rs 300 crore every month due to non-payment of electricity consumption bill by various stakeholders\/ individuals\/ factories and power theft.<\/p>\n
To convert the power department to a profit-generating department, the government has initiated several steps including “no electricity bill, no salary” for the government employees.<\/p>\n
Power minister Bimal Borah told a press conference here on Monday that the department registered 124 big power theft cases across the state in the last month and collected Rs 11.65 crore as fine.<\/p>\n
“Several factories and industries were caught in the last month. They have not paid electricity consumption bill for a long time. We have realized fine from them. Moreover, the power department has also caught several power theft cases,” he added.<\/p>\n
Stating that the power department has been working to convert it into a profit-generating department, the minister appealed to the people to cooperate with the department by paying the electricity consumption bills on time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
