NEW DELHI: The Centre has sought support from all enforcement agencies across states to implement the mandatory use of FASTag to pay user fee across toll plazas on NH network from February 15 (Monday).
\nIn a letter addressed to all chief secretaries of states on Friday, Union road transport and highways secretary Giridhar Aramane has said the usage of FASTag had led to reduction in waiting time, fuel consumption and pollution level at toll plazas.
\n\u201cFurther, with effect from February 15, the fee collection system at toll plazas of National Highways will be through FASTags alone. Implementation of this rule would require unstinted support of enforcement agencies of the state government. The ministry and NHAI shall provide necessary facilitation for this purpose,\u201d the letter said.
\nAccording to the NHAI, the current share toll collection through FASTag is around 80% and it\u2019s increasing. \u201cWe have been instructed not to allow any cash transaction at toll plazas on any lane. We will fix the FASTags on vehicles, which don\u2019t have them, at the spot. We are also concerned what would happen, if some commuters deny buying a tag. There is no clarity whether we can force them to go back or in such cases the commuters would be made to pay double of the normal toll charge,\u201d said a toll operator.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
