{"id":385180,"date":"2020-11-20T10:26:36","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T04:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infralive.com\/web\/?p=385180"},"modified":"2020-11-20T10:47:23","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T05:17:23","slug":"maharashtra-run-discoms-electricity-bill-arrears-rose-by-rs-8000-crore-during-lockdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infralive.com\/web\/maharashtra-run-discoms-electricity-bill-arrears-rose-by-rs-8000-crore-during-lockdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Maharashtra-run discom\u2019s electricity bill arrears rose by Rs 8,000 crore during lockdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electricity bill arrears of power consumers in Maharashtra have shot up by nearly Rs 8,000 crore during the lockdown. <\/p>\n<p>The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited\u2019s (Mahavitran) pending bill recoveries rose from Rs 51,145 crore in March to Rs 59,102 crore in October. <\/p>\n<p>During the seven-month period, there was a 251 per cent rise in the bill arrears of residential consumers. <\/p>\n<p>According to Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut\u2019s own admission, the arrears in this category had risen from Rs 1,374 crore to Rs 4,824 crore, with 55.98 lakh consumers defaulting of bill payments. <\/p>\n<p>Outstanding bills from commercial establishments also rose from Rs 879 crore in March to Rs 1,241 crore in October, whereas arrears of industrial consumers rose from Rs 472 crore to Rs 982 crore amid restrictions due to the lockdown.
